Edward Tucker Appointed to the Florida Council for the Social Status of Black Men and Boys
Edward Tucker, a 2016 B-CU alumnus, was recently appointed to the Florida Council for the Social Status of Black Men and Boys.
The Florida Council for the Social Status of Black Men and Boys focuses on engaging, educating, equipping and encouraging all black men and boys to successfully achieve their full potential. The Council has concentrated its efforts on developing programs and services based on sound practices that will improve the lives of black males.
“In my opinion, Edward Tucker possesses the talent, drive and intellect to represent Bethune-Cookman University in its interactions with the Council,” says Interim President Hubert Grimes. “He has immersed himself both as a student and staff member in the history of our founder and the University, and possesses the ability to help develop the charge of the Council in its social action efforts to improve the status of Black Men and Boys throughout our state.”
Tucker has a passion for empowering and developing students to become leaders. Having served as vice president as an undergraduate member of the B-CU United Negro College Fund Pre-Alumni Council, he now serves as advisor to the organization.
“The most beautiful part about my leadership within the Pre-Alumni Council, is the generation that I represent. I feel that this is what has made me most effective. Because I am a recent graduate, I can relate to the students on a deeper level of understanding, and at the same time, provide insights on my experiences to make them better.
Tucker shared that it was his collegiate education and experiences that helped him cultivate leadership skills in real world circumstances that have made an imprint on him. “The leadership at B-CU both enhanced and groomed my ability and fueled my passion for HBCU student leadership. It taught me how to be effective and how to honor the responsibility to our founder’s legacy and one another,” he added.
As an undergraduate, Tucker served as a peer counselor and orientation leader, B-CU Royal Court (Mister Senior), B-CU UNCF Pre-Alumni Council Vice-President, Student Government Association Electoral Commission Chairman, and a member of the United Negro College Fund Board of Directors, among other roles.
A native of Belle Glade, Florida, Tucker earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a minor in Public Administration. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and an earnest Mary McLeod Bethune history buff. Tucker currently serves as a graphic designer in the University’s Office of Institutional Advancement where he creates the "visual voice" for many of the University's signature events.
