Bethune-Cookman University Alumna Named President of the Florida Redevelopment Association
Tallahassee, Fla. — Bethune-Cookman University alumna and longtime manager of the City of Panama City’s Community Redevelopment Agency, Toni Shamplain, recently took on her newest role as president of the Florida Redevelopment Association (FRA). Installed as president at FRA’s annual conference on October 17, Shamplain plans to advocate for Florida's 221 Community Redevelopment Agencies (CRAs) by addressing redevelopment issues and seeking new partnerships to collaborate with FRA members.
Since 2005, Shamplain has served as the community redevelopment agency manager for the City of Panama City CRA and was the first director of the Panama City CRA as a stand-alone agency before it merged with the City of Panama City.
“Our desire is to make changes and improvements to communities throughout Florida that will positively impact its residents and visitors,” said Shamplain. “It is an honor to be appointed as president of the FRA and I am committed to helping enhance the hard work of redevelopment professionals.”
Prior to her current position, Shamplain was the main street manager with Panama City’s Downtown Improvement Board (DIB) and responsible for three of the four community redevelopment agencies administered by DIB.
Shamplain holds a Bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman University and has earned various certifications in management, outcome evaluations and human resources. In addition to her role as president of the FRA, she also has been elected to the board of directors for a six-year term.
Founded in 1974, the FRA is a statewide, non-profit association dedicated to assisting Florida’s communities and professionals in their redevelopment efforts. With its mission of “transforming spaces, revitalizing places,” FRA is committed to providing a forum for its more than 300 members to share knowledge and common experiences regarding revitalization opportunities and issues.
Shamplain was installed during the FRA’s annual conference in Downtown Tampa on October 17.
