"Our ability to recognize Dr. Bethune is a wonderful and deserved next step in her legacy," said President Brent Chrite. "I am grateful for the support to effectively steward relationships locally and nationally and to co-create opportunities to strengthen the reputational capital of the University in order to sustain and elevate B-CU."

"Today is a day of celebration for two reasons, we are announcing our ongoing commitment with the first check installment of many to support this worthwhile project of placing Mary McLeod Bethune in the National Statuary Hall and celebrating Dr. Bethune's birthday. As we embrace her legacy as a community, we think it's important and we are very proud to have Dr. Bethune installed in Washington, D.C. next year.," said Robert W. Lloyd, the Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune National Statuary Hall Campaign Chairperson.

To garner additional community support, B-CU partnered with the Daytona Beach Area Chamber of Commerce to kick off the National Statuary Hall Campaign in April 2018. The statue of Dr. Bethune is expected to be unveiled in the nation's capitol in 2020.
