B-CU Department of Music Establishes Student Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society
On March 2, 2020, the Lambda Gamma chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society was installed on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University. Pi Kappa Lambda is the only honor society for music and B-CU is now among a very small number of HBCUs with membership. The ceremony began with an invocation by Reverend Kenya Lovell and was followed by remarks from Provost Helena Mariella- Walrond, Dean Hiram Powell, Music Department Chair Shawn Hundley, Associate Professor of Music Rose Grace, and installing officer, Dr. Tayloe Harding from the University of South Carolina. In addition to the installation ceremony, the event featured performances by Senior Music Major Sarah Crum and Sophomore Music Education Major Esteban Parra.
The following faculty members were inducted as Charter Members of the Lambda Gamma Chapter: Dr. Rose Grace, Dr. Shawn Hundley, Mr. Pedro Orey, Mr. James Poitier, Mr. Curtis Rayam, Dr. Matthew Simmons, and Ms. Zohaniris Torres-Rosado.
Students were selected by faculty nomination based on their scholarship, musicianship, and outstanding character.
