Millennial Alumni Kicks Fundraising Up a Notch with Virtual Day Party

This past weekend, a group of young alumni raised over $4,300 during their first of a short series of virtual day parties in efforts to support student scholarships at Bethune-Cookman University. The young alumni group known as WHOE was established in 2016 by 2012 graduates Jeremy Mercer and Damian Thompson to create a lane for the young alumni of B-CU who wanted to provide an elevated homecoming experience for them and their peers.

HARRY LAWRENCE BURNEY, III was born on September 29, 1944, in Tampa, Florida to the late Harry Lawrence Burney, Jr. and Iona Mack Burney. Harry passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020, from complications of the Coronavirus at the Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the older of two children. His sister, Sandra Burney Vanterpool Smalls, predeceased him.

Bethune-Cookman University L. Gale Lemerand School of Nursing Achieves Full Accreditation

Bethune-Cookman University’s School of Nursing is in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing. On January 21, 2020, the Florida Board of Nursing, the State’s regulatory agency, notified the leadership of the L. Gale Lemerand School of Nursing that the nursing program had achieved “a graduate pass rate that meets or exceeds the required passage rate for calendar year 2019.” As of February 21, 2020 the School of Nursing was removed from probationary status and was awarded approval status.
